The West Yorkshire Consortium Safeguarding Children Procedures should be read alongside these procedures as they contain guidance for all practitioners on a range of topics including Child Sexual Exploitation, Child Criminal Exploitation, Children who are Missing, Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Please note: Throughout this manual there are references to Looked After Children or LAC or Children Looked After. These usages reflect current national regulation and legislation as well as in court judgements. However in Wakefield we prefer the phrase Children in Care and this is the language we will use whenever and wherever possible.
